Despite writing tests, passing QA and components being shipped to our users, developers didn't take to using these components right away. Remember there had been previous attempts to have a design system that survived with no avail. In a way they were waiting for it to fail, or at least survive long enough to give it a go. Yet without adoption, this was going to be a chicken or the egg kind of situation.

The business continued to support the initiative, but there was some tension as to where promised gains and adoption were.
